If you're new to crypto, words like HODL or ATH can sound confusing. But understanding a few basic terms makes it much easier to follow news, market updates and make more informed decisions.

Here's a simple crypto dictionary without complicated jargon.

Basic crypto slang

Bull market 🐂

A phase when crypto prices are generally rising. People expect growth and often look for buying opportunities early.

Example: "Bitcoin is in a bull market and continues to climb."

Bear market 🐻

A phase when crypto prices are generally falling. Investors become more cautious and may wait or sell to avoid losses.

Example: "We may be in a bear market as prices drop."

Whale 🐋

A person or company that owns a large amount of crypto, usually 1,000 BTC or more. Their activity can sometimes affect the market.

Example: "Whales bought 10,000 BTC while the market dipped."

HODL 💎 Keeping your crypto instead of selling during market ups and downs. The term comes from a famous misspelling of "hold."
Example: "Many long-term investors choose to HODL."
FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out) 😱 The feeling that you need to buy quickly because others are making profits.
Example: "Buying only because everyone else is buying is often FOMO."
ATH (All-Time High) 🚀 The highest price a coin has ever reached in its history.
Example: "Bitcoin's ATH is $126,198."
Dip 📉 A temporary price decline. Some investors see dips as an opportunity to buy crypto at a lower price.
Example: "Many users bought during the dip."

Cup and handle chart pattern
Cup and handle Usually seen as a sign that the price may continue rising.
Signal: Bullish 📈
Head and shoulders chart pattern
Head and shoulders Often appears before a trend turns downward.
Signal: Bearish 📉
Inverse head and shoulders chart pattern
Inverse head and shoulders Can signal that a falling market is about to recover.
Signal: Bullish 📈
Double top chart pattern
Double top Indicates weakening momentum.

Double bottom chart pattern
Double bottom Often suggests buyers are returning to the market.
